Choosing between a rebuild kit, a refurbished carburettor set and a send-in refurbishment service starts with your bike: is it an FZS 600 or FZS 1000, what year is it, and is its intake and jetting standard or modified? Check the exact listing before ordering. These options are not interchangeable, and a running problem alone does not confirm that the carburettors need rebuilding.
1. Rebuild kit: for owners doing the work themselves
A rebuild kit supplies the listed replacement parts, not a cleaned, rebuilt or tested carburettor set. It suits owners who can undertake the inspection, cleaning, assembly and fitting checks themselves, or arrange professional help.
The shop's O-ring and float bowl gasket kits for the FZS 600 (1998–2003) and FZS 1000 (2001–2005) explicitly exclude jets, valves and seats. The complete FZS 600 kit lists O-rings, gaskets, rubbers, float valves and seats. The complete FZS 1000 kit lists main jet O-rings, fuel rail O-rings, air mixture O-rings, diaphragm cap O-rings, float valves and seats, and float bowl gaskets. Main jet O-rings are not replacement main jets, and diaphragm cap O-rings are not replacement diaphragms.
The separate comprehensive FZS 1000 Viton kit lists additional seals and hardware, but explicitly does not include replacement jets. Do not assume any kit includes jets, jet needles or diaphragms unless its own listing says so. Contact the shop if you are unsure which kit matches your carburettors.
2. Refurbished set: buy a set already refurbished
A refurbished set suits owners who would rather buy completed carburettors than rebuild their existing set themselves. Choose the exact model, year and specification, and check availability and dispatch timing before planning the job.
The FZS 600 set for 1998–2003 is vapour blasted, ultrasonically cleaned, rebuilt and bench-tested for leaks and balance. A final balance check on the bike is recommended. Coolant and overflow pipes are not included.
The standard FZS 1000 set for 2001–2005 is unmodified and rebuilt with new Viton O-rings, float valves, valve seats and float bowl gaskets. Its listing confirms bench balancing and recommends balancing again on the bike. It is supplied bare without the TPS or coolant lines, and does not include an Ivan’s Performance Jet Kit. Refurbished does not mean brand new or guaranteed to need no further fitting checks.
Browse the Refurbished Carburettors collection and read the individual listing for included parts, exclusions and any exchange conditions.
3. Refurbishment service: retain your own carburettors
The send-in service suits owners who want their own FZS 600 or FZS 1000 carburettors professionally refurbished. Inspection comes first. Damage and additional replacement-part costs are discussed before rebuilding proceeds.
The standard FZS services include full strip-down, gentle wet soda vapour blasting, ultrasonic cleaning, rinsing and compressed-air drying, followed by rebuilding with gaskets, O-rings and replacement float valves. Damaged replacement parts cost extra. The shop uses the rebuild kits from its own catalogue and does not use other supplied kits.
The carburettors are bench-tested for leaks and balanced off the bike. Checking the balance again after fitting is recommended.
Typical completion is 2–3 working days from receipt of your carburettors, or 5–7 working days if replacement parts need ordering. These are completion estimates, not delivery promises. Contact the shop before sending to confirm arrangements.

Quick comparison
| Question | Rebuild kit | Refurbished set | Send-in service |
|---|---|---|---|
| Who does it suit? | Owners doing or arranging their own rebuild. | Owners buying an already refurbished set matching their bike. | Owners wanting their own carburettors refurbished. |
| Included parts | Kit-specific. Seal-only kits exclude jets, valves and seats; complete kits list float valves and seats. Do not assume jets or diaphragms are included. | Listing-specific. Standard FZS 1000: Viton O-rings, float valves, seats and bowl gaskets. Check bare-set exclusions. | Standard FZS services include gaskets, O-rings and float valves. Damaged replacement parts cost extra after discussion. |
| Testing and balance | No completed-carburettor testing service included. The rebuild and checks must be arranged by you. | FZS 600: leak and balance bench testing. Standard FZS 1000: bench balancing stated. Check again on the bike. | Bench leak testing and off-bike balancing; recheck after fitting. |
| Turnaround | Confirm dispatch; rebuilding time depends on your arrangements. | Confirm stock and dispatch for the exact set. | Typically 2–3 working days from receipt; 5–7 if replacement parts need ordering. Delivery time is separate. |
| Road-use caveats | A replacement-parts kit is not a tuning kit or a road-readiness guarantee. | Fitting and on-bike checks remain necessary. Ivan’s-equipped listings carry a not-for-road-use notice. | On-bike checks remain necessary. Upgrade requirements depend on the specific service listing. |
| When to contact the shop | Uncertain model/year, kit contents, damage or modified setup. | Uncertain specification, missing fittings, availability or exchange conditions. | Before sending; discuss condition, modifications, timing and possible extra parts. |
Standard refurbishment is not the same as a tuning upgrade
Do not add an air filter or jet kit on the assumption that every refurbished set needs one. The standard FZS 1000 set is unmodified. The FZS 600 Dynojet stage 1 service specifies a replacement performance air filter and notes that further adjustment may be needed after installation.
The FZS 1000 Ivan’s Slip-on set specifies the standard air filter and says an aftermarket performance filter must not be used. The Full-Monty set specifies ported inlet rubbers, a performance air filter and airbox modifications. Both Ivan’s-equipped listings state that Ivan’s performance products are sold not for road use. Read those restrictions before choosing; this guide does not establish road-use approval.
Before ordering or sending your carburettors
Tell the shop your model and year, whether you want to retain your own set, any known damage or missing parts, and the fitted air filter, exhaust and jetting modifications. Ask which listing matches your setup, what is included and what timing to expect. If you have already started stripping the carburettors, mention that too.
